This modern addition to a traditional urban home creates an architecture where the old integrates with the new in order to accommodate the Clients and their four growing boys.

The addition to the house consists of new downstairs living areas plus an upstairs wing with the children’s bedrooms and separate living space.

The upper level of the addition is designed so that the bedrooms feel as though they open onto an outdoor veranda. This feeling is achieved via a series of operable timber screens that can be manipulated to achieve varying degrees of openness. The screens also allow for natural light and ventilation while maintaining security on the second storey.
