When approached by the Web Master of Greenpeace Australia to design an addition to her weatherboard house it was an opportunity to realise an entirely environmentally sustainable design solution.

The renovation saw a reconfiguration of the existing areas and the addition of a kitchen, living area and veranda that open onto the backyard.

The new area features a polished concrete floor and insulated walls and ceilings that are teamed with north facing windows to create an almost constant indoor temperature.

The addition was designed to be compact yet open to minimise the footprint of the home. To ensure minimum carbon output, reclaimed windows and bi-fold doors were sourced and included in the design. The bespoke kitchen bench was crafted by Solid Wood Furniture out of recycled timber and features a period brass jam pot that has been converted into the new kitchen sink.
